Kano-ACReSAL Urges Academia to Support Environmental Policies

Kano, Nigeria – December 19, 2024 – Dr. Dahir Muhammad Hashim, the State Project Coordinator of Kano-ACReSAL, has called on academic institutions to actively support government initiatives, particularly in environmental promotion, by leveraging available research resources.

Dr. Dahir made this appeal while welcoming a delegation from the Biological Sciences Department at North West University, Kano. He stressed the critical need to strengthen the collaboration between government and academia, asserting that their partnership is essential for realizing ambitious developmental goals.

He highlighted ACReSAL’s commitment to aiding the Nigerian government in its long-term objective of integrated climate-resilient landscape management, which includes the restoration of one million hectares of degraded land in Northern Nigeria.

During the meeting, Dr. Dahir assured the delegation that the project is prepared to enhance the water supply for the five-hectare orchard established by ACReSAL at the university, ensuring the sustainability of this investment.

Mrs. Afiya Hamisu, Head of the Biological Sciences Department, praised Kano-ACReSAL for its effective work, noting that the intervention offers significant benefits for students, serving as both an outdoor classroom and a research facility. She also commended the project’s plan to construct solar-powered boreholes, which would alleviate the department’s reliance on fuel for water pumping.

In recognition of the successful completion of the orchard project, Mrs. Afiya presented a letter of appreciation to Dr. Dahir on behalf of the Biological Sciences Department and the university.
