Impact Evaluation Mission Team Visits Kano Zoological and Wildlife Management Agency in Falgore

Falgore, Doguwa LGA, Kano State – In a significant development for local conservation efforts, the Impact Evaluation Mission team visited the Kano Zoological and Wildlife Management Agency (KAZOMA) office in Falgore, Tudun-wada LGA of Kano State. The team was warmly received by Mr. Sulaiman Musa Isa, the officer in charge of the Falgore game reserve, who provided insights into the current state of the forest reserve.

During their discussions, Mr. Isa detailed the origins of the reserve, its intended purpose, and the various challenges that have contributed to its decline. He lamented the historical neglect faced by the forest under different regimes, highlighting the dire need for revitalization.

However, Mr. Isa expressed optimism about the ACReSAL (Additional Financing for the Nigeria Climate Action Project), which has begun providing valuable support for the forest reserve’s restoration. He noted that early signs of change are already visible, as there has been a noticeable decrease in forest-related crimes within local communities, a positive outcome attributed to ACReSAL’s intervention.

While commending ACReSAL for its ongoing assistance, Mr. Isa made a passionate appeal for additional support to fully restore the Falgore game reserve to its former glory. He emphasized the reserve’s critical importance as a watershed for the River Kano, which feeds Lake Tiga, a vital resource for irrigation projects in the region.

As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability, ACReSAL’s Component A3 focuses on conserving ecosystem integrity, recognizing the essential role such ecosystems play in dryland management. The initiative aims to empower local communities and enhance conservation efforts in the face of increasing environmental challenges.

As the partnership between ACReSAL and KAZOMA continues to develop, stakeholders remain hopeful for a revitalized Falgore game reserve that serves both ecological and community needs.
