Kano-ACReSAL Engages Consultative Team to Assess Project Progress Across States

Kano, February 18, 2025 — A team of expert consultants engaged by the ACReSAL project has arrived in Kano to evaluate the progress of interventions under Component C, aimed at institutional and policy strengthening across participating states.

Led by Dr. Paul Andrew Gwaza, the team met with officials from the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) before visiting project sites within the Kano Metropolitan area. The purpose of the mission is to assess the milestones achieved and ensure optimal utilization of resources.

During their visit, the team engaged with beneficiary institutions to understand the scope and impact of the support provided, gathering vital statistics on beneficiaries reached and hectares recovered. They also offered guidance and recommendations to maximize the benefits of the ongoing interventions.

Part of the assessment involved scrutinizing the impact of recent initiatives by the State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, including the 2023 Drainage Clearance Support, the development of the Climate Change Policy, and the procurement of ten tractors and two payloaders for the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB).

The team also inspected a refurbished Soil and Water Quality Laboratory at North West University Kano, a facility supported by the project to bolster research and policy development.

The mission marks a crucial step in evaluating the success of ACReSAL’s efforts to strengthen local institutions and policies in line with its objectives under Component C.
