The activity aims to raise awareness about the effects of climate change and to inspire young people to take climate action as vital agents of sustainability within their communities.
Dr. Abdulhamid Bala, the Acting Project Coordinator of Kano-ACReSAL, stated that the project is working tirelessly to ensure collective action in addressing climate change for a sustainable future. As part of its bold efforts, Kano-ACReSAL is actively involving young people, empowering them to become responsible environmental stewards who contribute meaningfully to building a more resilient and sustainable environment.
Dr. Abdulhamid therefore urged the students to champion the cause by influencing their peers, families, and communities to adopt sustainable environmental practices. During the event, the ACReSAL team inaugurated an environmental club known as the “Climate Change Champions”. The club members will be saddled with the responsibility of leading climate change actions and overseeing environmental interventions within their school and surrounding areas. The session was both impactful and engaging, with students and teachers demonstrating strong enthusiasm for the initiative. In his remarks, the school principal, Malam Abba Tukur, expressed the full commitment of both the students and the school management to support the cause and ensure its long-term success.
