Dr. Hashim highlighted the diverse success stories that have emerged from the government’s extensive afforestation initiatives, spearheaded by the administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf. He recounted the initial press conference that celebrated the launch of the #3MTP initiative, which featured the allocation of one million seedlings for urban and institutional landscaping projects.
In a significant update, Dr. Hashim revealed that the project has reached a critical milestone, with the remaining two million trees earmarked for rural areas nearing completion. He affirmed that the implementation of robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks ensures that the planted trees receive proper care and nurturing, which is essential for their survival and long-term impact.
“It is with great pride that we report the substantial progress we have made,” said Dr. Hashim. “The efforts of the Kano-ACReSAL project have not only contributed to afforestation but have also restored over 21,261 hectares of degraded land across the state, significantly contributing to the health of our ecosystems.”
The project coordinator expressed gratitude for the recognition received from international bodies such as the World Bank, which has commended the effectiveness of the Kano-ACReSAL project in achieving its objectives. “Our dedication to restoring the environment and promoting sustainable practices has garnered support and acknowledgment from esteemed partners,” he added.
Acknowledging the collaborative efforts that have bolstered the project’s success, Dr. Hashim lauded the contributions of various stakeholders, including academic institutions like Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano and Bayero University, as well as numerous community-based organizations (CBOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). He emphasized that these partnerships are vital for the successful implementation of environmental initiatives.
The press conference underscored the Kano State Government’s ongoing commitment to creating a more sustainable and resilient environment in the face of climate change challenges. “Under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, we are not only planting trees but sowing the seeds of hope for future generations,” Dr. Hashim stated.
The Kano-ACReSAL project aims to foster a sustainable ecosystem by actively engaging communities, enhancing environmental awareness, and encouraging local participation in climate action efforts. As the project progresses, officials remain optimistic about its potential to transform the landscape of Kano State, ensuring a resilient future amid the challenges posed by climate change.
