World Bank ESF Team Conducts Site Visits in Kano State to Monitor Erosion Control Projects

Kano, Nigeria – As part of their routine mission, the Environmental Safety Framework (ESF) team from the World Bank visited key erosion control sites at Bulbula-Gayawa in Nasarawa and the Yartiti Water Conservation Structure in the Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.

During their visit, the team engaged in a technical session with relevant staff of the Kano-ACReSAL project at the Conference Hall of the project office.

In their remarks, Mr. Lucky Erhaze, an Environmental Safeguard Specialist, and Mr. Elijah Abiodun Siakpere, a Social Safeguard Specialist from the World Bank, outlined the objectives of their dedicated mission to Kano. They emphasized the importance of reviewing, monitoring, and assessing the implementation progress of all cleared Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) documents, as well as other commitments outlined in the Environmental and Social Catchment Plan (ESCP).

The team also evaluated the status of occupational health and safety measures and community safety at the proposed sites.

A key focus of the mission was to assess the level of implementation and provide support to the states in addressing challenges, thereby accelerating project implementation.

This visit underscores the World Bank’s commitment to ensuring that environmental and social safeguards are effectively integrated into development projects, promoting sustainable practices that benefit local communities.
