Kano ACReSAL Project

…greening the environment, saving lives

PC Kano ACReSAL

Dr. Dahiru Muhammad Hashim

Project Coordinator

The Kano ACReSAL Project is part of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) initiative; moreover, it is a six-year World Bank-supported effort aimed at tackling sustainable landscape management and climate change challenges in 19 Northern States of Nigeria. This project acknowledges climate change as a critical national security threat that significantly affects natural resources, ecosystems, and biodiversity, particularly in the semi-arid areas of Northern Nigeria.

Furthermore, the 19 northern states targeted by the ACReSAL project, including Kano State, face multiple socio-economic challenges. These challenges include high poverty rates, low literacy levels, a fragile and conflict-ridden environment, degradation of natural resources, poor agricultural productivity, climate risks, desertification, limited access to modern technology, and weak institutional capacity. Consequently, the ACReSAL project aims to address these issues holistically for sustainable development….

The primary objective of the Kano ACReSAL Project is to increase the implementation of sustainable landscape management practices in targeted watersheds within Kano State. By adopting climate-resilient approaches, the project aims to strengthen the long-term enabling environment for integrated landscape management in Nigeria.
